Aquatic biota and human health are seriously threatened by the dramatic rise in antibiotics in environmental matrices. In this regard, the present study aims to improve knowledge of the combined effects of heterojunction design and defect engineering on the photocatalytic degradation of pharmaceuticals in aqueous matrices. Advantageously, the positioning of the valence band (VB) and conduction band (CB) levels of S@g-CN, being higher than those of BiMoO, demonstrates the feasibility of forming a type-II heterojunction between these materials.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at a scoring system called O-RADS that helps doctors decide how serious ovarian cysts are before surgery.
  • Researchers found that many patients who had surgery did not have serious problems and could have avoided it if the O-RADS system had been used.
  • Almost 42% of the patients’ lesions scored low on the O-RADS scale, suggesting they were probably not harmful, meaning doctors could monitor them instead of performing surgery.

Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (eHER) is crucial in addressing the growing global energy demand. Although nickel-pincer-based molecular complexes, varying in donor atoms, were studied previously for eHER, the impact of variations in the substituents attached to the donor atoms was not investigated. Herein, three air-stable PNP-based Ni-pincer complexes [R1=R2=Ph (7); R1=R2=Bu (9); R1=Bu, R2=Ph (10)], varying solely in P-substituents, were studied in acetonitrile.

Gene therapies, which include viral-vector gene delivery, genome editing, and genetically modified cell therapy, are innovative treatments with the potential to address the underlying genetic causes of disorders and to provide life-changing value in terms of curing disease. Although adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy is one of the most advanced types of gene therapy, far fewer AAV-based gene therapy studies have been conducted in Asia than in North America and Europe. The 6th Asia Partnership Conference of Regenerative Medicine (APACRM) was held on April 20, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.

K^{+}K^{-} pairs may be produced in photonuclear collisions, either from the decays of photoproduced ϕ(1020) mesons or directly as nonresonant K^{+}K^{-} pairs. Measurements of K^{+}K^{-} photoproduction probe the couplings between the ϕ(1020) and charged kaons with photons and nuclear targets. The kaon-proton scattering occurs at energies far above those available elsewhere.

Background Low-level light therapy (LLLT) has been shown to modulate recovery in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the impact of LLLT on the functional connectivity of the brain when at rest has not been well studied. Purpose To use functional MRI to assess the effect of LLLT on whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) in patients with moderate TBI at acute (within 1 week), subacute (2-3 weeks), and late-subacute (3 months) recovery phases.

Background And Objectives: Biochemical testing of CSF for neurotransmitter metabolites and their cofactors is often used in the diagnostic evaluation of infants with neurologic disorders but requires an invasive, labor-intensive procedure with many potential sources of error. Our aim was to determine the diagnostic yield of CSF testing for biogenic amines (serotonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine) and their cofactors in identifying inborn errors of neurotransmitter metabolism among infants.

Methods: We evaluated all infants aged 1 year or younger who underwent CSF biogenic amine neurotransmitter (CSFNT) testing at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) between 2008 and 2017 in this cross-sectional study.

Electrical double layers (EDLs) arise when an electrolyte is in contact with a charged surface, and are encountered in several application areas including batteries, supercapacitors, electrocatalytic reactors, and colloids. Over the last century, the development of Poisson-Boltzmann (PB) models and their modified versions have provided significant physical insight into the structure and dynamics of the EDL. Incorporation of physics such as finite-ion-size effects, dielectric decrement, and ion-ion correlations has made such models increasingly accurate when compared to more computationally expensive approaches such as molecular simulations and classical density functional theory.
