Diamond is an exceptional material with great potential across various fields owing to its interesting properties. However, despite extensive efforts over the past decades, producing large quantities of desired ultrathin diamond membranes for widespread use remains challenging. Here we demonstrate that edge-exposed exfoliation using sticky tape is a simple, scalable and reliable method for producing ultrathin and transferable polycrystalline diamond membranes.

Background: Despite advances made in targeted biomarker-based therapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treatment, remission is often short and followed by relapse and acquired resistance. Functional precision medicine (FPM) efforts have been shown to improve therapy selection guidance by incorporating comprehensive biological data to tailor individual treatment. However, effectively managing complex biological data, while also ensuring rapid conversion of actionable insights into clinical utility remains challenging.

Rationale: Cardiac-expressed long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are important for cardiomyocyte (CM) differentiation and function. Several lncRNAs have been identified and characterized for early CM lineage commitment, however those in later CM lineage specification and maturation remain less well studied. Moreover, unique atrial / ventricular lncRNA expression has never been studied in detail.

Background: Donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) has emerged as a reliable, noninvasive method for the surveillance of allograft rejection in heart transplantation (HT) patients, but its utility in multi-organ transplants (MOT) is unknown. We describe our experience using dd-cfDNA in simultaneous MOT recipients.

Methods: A single-center retrospective review of all HT recipients between 2018 and 2022 that had at least one measurement of dd-cfDNA collected.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive breast cancer subtype and has the highest rate of recurrence. The predominant standard of care for advanced TNBC is systemic chemotherapy with or without immunotherapy; however, responses are typically short lived. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop more effective treatments.

Article Synopsis
  • * Analysis using a large 23andMe cohort revealed that individuals with SCT had a 1.45 times greater risk of VTE, with the risk of pulmonary embolism (PE) being particularly high at 1.95 times that of non-carriers.
  • * While the VTE risk associated with SCT is lower than that for heterozygous factor V Leiden (FVL), it predominantly presents as PE, contrasting with the pattern seen in FVL where isolated deep venous thrombosis (

Background: Antidepressants are among the most commonly prescribed medications, but evidence on comparative weight change for specific first-line treatments is limited.

Objective: To compare weight change across common first-line antidepressant treatments by emulating a target trial.

Design: Observational cohort study over 24 months.

Tirzepatide, a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide/glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GIPR/GLP-1R) agonist, has, in clinical trials, demonstrated greater reductions in glucose, body weight, and triglyceride levels compared with selective GLP-1R agonists in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, cellular mechanisms by which GIPR agonism may contribute to these improved efficacy outcomes have not been fully defined. Using human adipocyte and mouse models, we investigated how long-acting GIPR agonists regulate fasted and fed adipocyte functions.

  • * A phase 2 trial involving 114 patients compared serplulimab plus HLX04 and XELOX to a placebo with bevacizumab and XELOX, focusing on progression-free survival (PFS) and safety.
  • * Results showed that the serplulimab group had a longer median PFS (17.2 months) compared to the placebo group (10.7 months), indicating potential benefits from the immunotherapy treatment.

Idecabtagene vicleucel (Ide-cel) has demonstrated excellent efficacy and durable responses in patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). However, the outcomes with ide-cel in patients with extramedullary disease (EMD) remain incompletely characterized. We included patients with RRMM treated with ide-cel between May 2021 and April 2023 across 11 US academic institutions.

Behavioral neurology & neuropsychiatry (BNNP) is a field that seeks to understand brain-behavior relationships, including fundamental brain organization principles and the many ways that brain structures and connectivity can be disrupted, leading to abnormalities of behavior, cognition, emotion, perception, and social cognition. In North America, BNNP has existed as an integrated subspecialty through the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties since 2006. Nonetheless, the number of behavioral neurologists across academic medical centers and community settings is not keeping pace with increasing clinical and research demand.

Purpose: We aimed to describe RAS mutations in gynecologic cancers as they relate to clinicopathologic and genomic features, survival, and therapeutic implications.

Experimental Design: Gynecologic cancers with available somatic molecular profiling data at our institution between February 2010 and August 2022 were included and grouped by RAS mutation status. Overall survival was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method, and multivariable analysis was performed using the Cox proportional hazard model.

Background: Most organs are maintained lifelong by resident stem/progenitor cells. During development and regeneration, lineage-specific stem/progenitor cells can contribute to the growth or maintenance of different organs, whereas fully differentiated mature cells have less regenerative potential. However, it is unclear whether vascular endothelial cells (ECs) are also replenished by stem/progenitor cells with EC-repopulating potential residing in blood vessels.

We recently reported that resistance to PD-1 blockade in a refractory lung cancer-derived model involved increased collagen deposition and the collagen-binding inhibitory receptor leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor 1 (LAIR1). Thus, we hypothesized that LAIR1 and collagen cooperated to suppress therapeutic response. In this study, we report that LAIR1 is associated with tumor stroma and is highly expressed by intratumoral myeloid cells in both human tumors and mouse models of cancer.

  • The study investigated the effectiveness and safety of brolucizumab for treating difficult cases of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in Taiwan, focusing on a real-world patient group.
  • Patients were monitored for three months after starting brolucizumab, with key outcomes including changes in visual acuity and retinal thickness, along with tracking any side effects like intraocular inflammation.
  • Results showed significant improvements in retinal thickness and fluid resolution, and about half of the patients experienced noticeable visual gains, indicating that brolucizumab can be a promising treatment option for this condition.

  • Blood-brain barrier damage has been linked to post-stroke brain edema, but treatments targeting this damage haven't proven effective in reducing edema clinically.
  • A study using mice and human patients showed that dysfunction in the glymphatic system (GS) is closely associated with the progression and absorption of brain edema following ischemic strokes.
  • Enhancing GS function may alleviate brain edema and improve cognitive outcomes, suggesting that targeting the GS could be a new treatment strategy for ischemic stroke-related edema.*

Recycling vanadium from alternative sources is essential due to its expanding demand, depletion in natural sources, and environmental issues with terrestrial mining. Here, we present a complexation-precipitation method to selectively recover pentavalent vanadium ions, V(V), from complex metal ion mixtures, using an acid-stable metal binding agent, the cyclic imidedioxime, naphthalimidedioxime (HCID). HCID showed high extraction capacity and fast binding towards V(V) with crystal structures showing a 1:1 M:L dimer, [V(O)(CHNO)], 1, and 1:2 M:L non-oxido, [V(CHNO)] complex, 2.

Background And Objectives: Recent data link exposure to repetitive head impacts (RHIs) from American football with increased white matter hyperintensity (WMH) burden. WMH might have unique characteristics in the context of RHI beyond vascular risk and normal aging processes. We evaluated biological correlates of WMH in former American football players, including markers of amyloid, tau, inflammation, axonal injury, neurodegeneration, and vascular health.
