Combinations of best management practices (BMPs) are needed to achieve nutrient reduction goals in the Mississippi/Atchafalaya River Basin (MARB), but field results are crucial to encourage stacked adoption of BMPs. A paired catchment-scale study (2015-18) was done to assess the impact of (i) BMPs, (ii) precipitation patterns, and (iii) seasonality on nitrogen (N) export. Flow-weighted samples were collected and analyzed for total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), nitrate (NO-N), and total nitrogen (TN).

Sodium at high millimolar levels in the cytoplasm is toxic to plant and yeast cells. Sequestration of Na(+) ions into the vacuole is one mechanism to confer Na(+)-tolerance on these organisms. In the present study we provide direct evidence that the Arabidopsis thaliana At-NHX1 gene and the yeast NHX1 gene encode low-affinity electroneutral Na(+)/H(+) exchangers.

The shape and color of flowers are important for plant reproduction because they attract pollinators such as insects and birds. Therefore, it is thought that alterations in these traits may result in the attraction of different pollinators, genetic isolation, and ultimately, (sympatric) speciation. Petunia integrifolia and P.

The regulatory anthocyanin loci, an1, an2, an4 and an11 of Petunia hybrida, and r and c1 from Zea mays, control transcription of different sets of target genes. Both an2 and c1 encode a MYB-type protein. This study reports the isolation of a P.
