Shortly after its introduction into clinical practice, isolates gained resistance to penicillin via the acquisition of β-lactamases. A number of centers have recently described an increase in the proportion of invasive methicillin-susceptible (MSSA), which are also susceptible to penicillin (PSSA). Methods: This was a prospective multicenter, blinded study. MeMed BV (MMBV), a test based on tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), interferon gamma-inducible protein-10 (IP-10), and C-reactive protein (CRP), was measured using a rapid measurement platform.
Background: Pelvic involvement has been reported in 3%-14% of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis (AHO) cases in children. One guideline suggests need for a longer antibiotic course in pelvic AHO, however, recent data are lacking. We describe the clinical course of children with pelvic AHO and compare it to nonpelvic AHO.
