Purpose: Breast cancer (BC) is the most prevalent cancer in women and radiotherapy (RT) is an integral part of its treatment. High-level evidence guides clinical decisions, but given the abundance of guidelines, a need to navigate within the evidence has been identified by the board of the Scientific Association of Swiss Radiation Oncology (SASRO). A pilot project was initiated aiming to create an overview of recent clinically relevant evidence for BC RT, to make it easily available to (radiation) oncologists and radiation oncologists in training.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the impact of intensified salvage radiotherapy (sRT) on erectile function in prostate cancer patients after surgery.
  • Out of 344 patients, 58% experienced some form of erectile dysfunction (ED) post-surgery, and while 29% noted improvement after 5 years, many with mild ED saw a worsening condition.
  • Key factors influencing sexual function included the interval between surgery and sRT, patient age, and the radiotherapy technique used, but the radiation dose (64 Gy vs. 70 Gy) did not significantly affect ED outcomes.

Background: Systemic inflammation is predictive of the overall survival in cancer patients and is related to the density of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment of cancer, which in turn correlates with F -fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) metabolic parameters (MPs). The density of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in the microenvironment has the potential to be a biomarker that can be used clinically to optimize patient selection in oropharyngeal head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). There is little to no data regarding the association of systemic inflammation with PET/CT-MPs, especially in HNSCC.

Background: Research examining the neural correlates of obesity has recently expanded. However, limited attention has focused on identifying unique brain signatures associated with obesity, particularly in adolescents. The aim of this study was to use surface-based approaches to examine the integrity of brain structures involved in processing the pleasurable effects of food with body mass and food reward sensitivity in adolescent girls.
