In recent years, spherical powders with no or minimal internal pores fabricated by the plasma rotating electrode process (PREP) have been highly recommended for powder-type additive manufacturing. Most research on PREP is aimed at establishing relationship between PREP parameters and powder size. However, almost no dedicated research on granulation behavior has been conducted so far.

Neurons in the central nervous system display a great diversity of synaptic architecture. While much of our knowledge on the excitatory synapse morphology derives from the prototypical asymmetric synapses, little has been studied about the atypical crest-type synapse that exists in the restricted brain regions. Here, we used focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB/SEM) to image a neuropil volume of interpeduncular nucleus (IPN) and manually reconstructed several dendrites to obtain an insight about the topography and quantitative features of crest synapses.

However, the precise neuroanatomical changes that accompany the aging process in both normal and pathologic conditions remain unknown. This is in part because there is a lack of high-resolution imaging tool that has the capacity to image a desired volume of neurons in a high-throughput and automated manner.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAir purifiers, which release positive and negative ions generated by an electric discharge into the air, have been widely used in common households. In this study, the developmental toxicity potential of the ionized air containing positive and negative ions was evaluated in SD rats [Crl:CD(SD)] following whole-body inhalation to obtain preliminary information for the definitive study. Two groups of 10 pregnant female rats were exposed to the ionized air at concentrations of 0 and 7,000,000 ions/cm(3) for 6 hr per day from Days 6 to 19 of gestation.

The ultrasonic sound velocities of cross-linked orthorhombic hen egg-white lysozyme (HEWL) crystals, including a large amount of water in the crystal, were measured using an ultrasonic pulse-echo method. As a result, seven elastic constants of orthorhombic crystals were observed to be C11 = 5.24 GPa, C22 = 4.
