Patient-Clinician Communication During Cardiology Telemedicine Consultations: A Feasibility Study.

While studies have evaluated the utility of telehealth in replacing in-person clinical encounters, there is a dearth of literature examining the quality of patient-physician communication with telehealth encounters. Accordingly, this study assessed the feasibility of using virtual cardiology clinical encounters to examine patient-physician interaction, communication, and perceptions of the clinical encounter. Telemedicine cardiology clinical encounters were audio- and video-recorded following the encounter, patients, and cardiologists completed an electronic survey to assess perceptions of the encounter.

Coordinated Targeting of S6K1/2 and AXL Disrupts Pyrimidine Biosynthesis in PTEN-Deficient Glioblastoma.

Unlabelled: Intrinsic resistance to targeted therapeutics in PTEN-deficient glioblastoma (GBM) is mediated by redundant signaling networks that sustain critical metabolic functions. Here, we demonstrate that coordinated inhibition of the ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (S6K1) and the receptor tyrosine kinase AXL using LY-2584702 and BMS-777607 can overcome network redundancy to reduce GBM tumor growth. This combination of S6K1 and AXL inhibition suppressed glucose flux to pyrimidine biosynthesis.

Mentoring practices that predict doctoral student outcomes in a biological sciences cohort.

Despite the importance of a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives in biological research, women, racial and ethnic minorities, and students from non-traditional academic backgrounds remain underrepresented in the composition of university faculty. Through a study on doctoral students at a research-intensive university, we pinpoint advising from faculty as a critical component of graduate student experiences and productivity. Graduate students from minority backgrounds reported lower levels of support from their advisors and research groups.

Background: Guidelines for sepsis recommend treating those at highest risk within 1 hour. The emergency care system can only achieve this if sepsis is recognised and prioritised. Ambulance services can use prehospital early warning scores alongside paramedic diagnostic impression to prioritise patients for treatment or early assessment in the emergency department.
