Background: Pain is the leading cause of disability and reduced quality of life worldwide. Despite the increasing burden for patients and healthcare systems, pain research remains underfunded and under focused. Having stakeholders identify and prioritize areas that need urgent attention in the field will help focus funding topics, reduce 'research waste', improve the effectiveness of pain research and therapy and promote the uptake of research evidence.

Demand for sustainable plastics alternatives, combined with the unfavorable thermal properties exhibited by some PHAs, motivates the discovery of novel PHA-based materials. Incorporation of α-substituted HAs yields thermostable PHAs; however, the reverse β-oxidation (rBOX) pathway, the canonical pathway for HA production, is unable to produce these monomers because it utilizes thiolases with narrow substrate specificity.

Leucine-rich, glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1), is a secreted protein known to regulate excitability within the nervous system and is the target of autoantibodies from neuropathic pain patients. Therapies that block or reduce antibody levels are effective at relieving pain in these patients, suggesting that LGI1 has an important role in clinical pain.

Through killing and instilling fear in their prey, large terrestrial carnivores shape the structure and function of ecosystems globally. Most large carnivore species have experienced severe range and population declines due to human activities, and many are now threatened with extinction. Consequently, the impacts of these predators on food webs have been diminished or lost completely from many ecosystems.
