An anomalous Raman phenomenon (ARP) refers to a scenario in which the Stokes and anti-Stokes frequencies of a Raman mode are different. Here we report that ARP introduces different line shifts in Stokes and anti-Stokes frequencies in 4-Decyloxy Benzoic acid with temperature across two thermally driven structural transitions: the smectic (S) to nematic (N) phase transition at 375 K and the nematic (N) to isotropic (I) transition at 390 K. Four Raman modes near 663, 773, 1128, and 1168 cmshift towards higher frequencies (blueshift) in the Stokes frequency and towards lower frequencies (redshift) in the anti-Stokes frequency with rise in temperature near S to N phase transitions.

Objectives: India is vigorously pursuing malaria elimination by 2030 and one of the key challenges is how to prevent the malaria risk associated with long-distance migrations of populations from endemic to non-endemic areas. Millions of pilgrims walking to the holy Ramdevra temple stay in temporary shelters along the route in district of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan state in western India. The main pilgrimage period coincides with the post-monsoon period with elevated vector densities.

We investigate gender differences in time-use patterns in 1891 children and assess how time is reallocated in response to challenges faced by households in India. We use adaptations made within a household during adversities to understand how gender inequality in time use is produced and reinforced. Using three waves of the Young Lives Panel Survey (2009, 2013, and 2016), we find that boys spend significantly more time on school and leisure than girls.

This study investigated the adsorption performance of biochar produced from different types of urban biowaste material viz., sugarcane bagasse (SB), brinjal stem (BS), and citrus peel (CP) for removal of heavy metal ions (Pb, Cu, Cr, and Cd) from aqueous solution. The effects of biowaste material, dosage of biochar, solution pH, and initial concentration of heavy metal ions and isotherm models were performed to understand the possible adsorption mechanisms.
