Objectives: Bone density is an important factor for long-term implant success. Peri-implant bone density evaluation before implant placement can be useful for treatment planning, such as the selection of proper implant size or drilling protocol in each case. In this study, we aimed to establish an objective intraoperative bone density evaluation method by measuring the drilling torque value using a newly designed density measurement drill.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoporosis leads to increased hip fractures, negatively impacting quality of life, while the connection between tooth loss and bone health is still not fully understood.
  • This study examines the effects of tooth loss on memory function and femoral bone mineral density in young male mice, using cognitive tests and imaging analysis over two months.
  • Results indicate that tooth loss decreases cognitive function, reduces bone density in the femur and mandible, and lowers levels of a key protein linked to brain health.

Background: We first reported that intraoral imaging with a color-imaging intraoral scanner could evaluate stained plaques and contribute to oral hygiene instructions. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of red and blue staining on dental hygiene assessment with an intraoral scanner using plaque control record values and plaque-stained areas.

Material And Methods: Fifteen patients (six males and nine females, aged 25-85 years) were included in this study.

The treatment method of placing a small number of implants in the mandible as a removable implant-supported overdenture (IOD) enables implant placement and denture stability, even in cases with severe residual ridge resorption. In this case report, a new implant placement technique was performed using a three-dimensionally (3D)-printed duplicate denture fabricated by a 3D printer, resulting in the restoration of masticatory function through IOD.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines how swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) affect sleep quality in older adults, highlighting a lack of research on this topic.
  • - Data collected from over 3,000 participants revealed that 28% had dysphagia risk, with those affected more likely to report poor sleep quality, particularly among men.
  • - The findings suggest that maintaining good swallowing function might improve sleep health in older populations, stressing the importance of addressing dysphagia in elderly care.
