Asbestos are crystallized silicate minerals that form fibers with different structures and characteristics. Asbestos fibers are very durable and can tolerate very high temperatures. Therefore it was common to use asbestos as a fire retardants, heat insulation and where high temperature is used.

Factors associated with chronic and acute back pain in Wales, a cross-sectional study.

Background: Back pain is one of the most common causes for disability in the working population. Some risk factors for back pain are well known, however little is known about factors uniquely associated with acute or chronic back pain. This study aimed to elucidate patterns uniquely associated with acute or chronic back pain.

Malignant mesothelioma incidence by nation-wide cancer registry: a population-based study.

Background: Malignant mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure has a long latency period. A ban on asbestos use may not be apparent in decreased incidence in the population until after several decades. The aim was to evaluate changes in the incidence of malignant mesothelioma, and the possible impact of the asbestos ban implemented in Iceland in 1983.

Research priorities for public mental health in Europe: recommendations of the ROAMER project.

Background: The ROAdmap for MEntal health Research in Europe project aimed to create an integrated European roadmap for mental health research. Leading mental health research experts across Europe have formulated consensus-based recommendations for future research within the public mental health field.

Methods: Experts were invited to compile and discuss research priorities in a series of topic-based scientific workshops.
