Article Synopsis
  • Anesthesia is crucial for intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) during thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, as this study investigates its effects on signal quality.
  • The study involved 72 patients and compared the impact of two muscle relaxants—succinylcholine and rocuronium bromide—while using either total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) or combined anesthesia.
  • Results showed that unwanted movements occurred more frequently with TIVA and succinylcholine, but the type of anesthesia maintenance and muscle relaxant did not significantly affect nerve signal quality.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and risk factors for hypothyroidism, both clinical and subclinical, following hemithyroidectomy in preoperatively euthyroid patients, as well as hypothyroidism remission and its time of remission.

Materials And Methods: A search was performed in Medline (via PubMed), Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library using the keywords "hemithyroidectomy + postoperative + hypothyroidism" and "hemithyroidectomy + hormone supplementation".

Results: Fifty-four studies with a total of 9,999 patients were included.

Introduction: Non functional parathyroid carcinoma (PC) is one of the rarest malignant neoplasms. Due to the lack of symptoms and laboratory findings, it is mostly diagnosed in late AQ2 stages, when local invasion and dissemination are already present. However, our case is an exception, because it was detected in early stage, with no local invasion present.
