Rapid pretreatment for multi-sample analysis of advanced glycation end products and their role in nephropathy.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs), produced by the Maillard reaction between carbohydrates and proteins, may be involved in diabetes and its complications. Accurate quantification of AGEs can demonstrate the relation between AGEs and pathological conditions, but it is not widely used in clinical practice because of the multiple pretreatment steps before analyses. We developed a fully automated solid-phase extraction system (FSPES) to simplify rate-limiting pretreatment using a cation exchange column.

Tips and Techniques for Laparoscopic Tubal Reanastomosis: A Case Report.

Tubal reanastomosis or tubal reversal, a surgical method used to reverse tubal sterilization, may be an option for women who for various reasons wish to reestablish their fertility. A 38-year-old Chinese woman, gravida 2, para 2 (both delivered through cesarean section) presented to our outpatient gynecology clinic requesting bilateral tubal recanalization. After other causes of infertility were excluded, laparoscopic tubal reanastomosis was performed.

[Treatment of pulmonary amyloidosis with dimethyl sulfoxide--a case report].

Metastatic lung tumor was suspected in a 52-year-old woman who showed multiple nodules on her chest radiographs. Conventional examinations did not define the diagnosis, and so a biopsy was performed using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Pathological examination demonstrated deposits of amorphous materials which were stained red by Congo red staining, even after potassium permanganate treatment.

Immunotherapy attenuates eosinophil transendothelial migration induced by the supernatants of antigen-stimulated mononuclear cells from atopic asthmatics.

Background: Eosinophil transendothelilal migration across vascular endothelial cells is an initial step of eosinophil accumulation in allergic inflammation. There is increasing evidence that specific immunotherapy (SIT) modulates the production of inflammatory molecules from mononuclear cells.

Objective: The present study was undertaken to examine whether SIT modifies eosinophil transendothelial migration induced by the supernatants of antigen-stimulated mononuclear cells from atopic asthmatics.

[Minute pulmonary meningothelial-like nodules: a case report].

The presence of multiple small nodular shadows on a routine chest radiograph was noticed in a 56-year-old woman who had undergone a left mastectomy on the diagnosis of breast cancer 8 years before. Chest CT films revealed small nodules scattered beneath the pleura mainly in both lower lobes. A biopsy was performed during video-assisted thoracoscopy to rule out metastasis from breast cancer.
