Objectives: To assess the cost-effectiveness of pharmacological pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) using a combination of emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (FTC/TDF) with respect to HIV transmission in high-risk patients in the Czech Republic.

Material And Methods: A pharmacoeconomic model was constructed to compare costs and outcomes in a cohort with and without PrEP. Initially, a decision tree is used to evaluate short-term benefits of PrEP (proportion of HIV-infected individuals), followed by Markov cycles to simulate the course of the disease based on CD4 lymphocyte counts.

National and international comparative studies on provision of palliative care are lacking and further research would be beneficial for the development of national policies and effective service frameworks in different countries. This literature review focuses on a comparison of the development, structure and provision of the palliative care services in the United Kingdom (UK) and the Czech Republic (CZ). The aim of the review is to find out if the systems used in each country could benefit the development of the services in the other.
