Objective: To create and validate nomograms predicting overall survival and recurrence in treatment-naïve rectal cancer (RC) patients who underwent upfront surgery.
Background: Although multidisciplinary treatment is standard for locally advanced RC, understanding surgical efficacy is important for determining indications for perioperative adjuvant therapy.
Methods: RC patients who underwent upfront surgery at the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum institutions were analyzed.
We report three cases demonstrating the efficacy and versatility of the micro-incision scleral tunnel (MIST) technique, a novel method for Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) tube insertion. MIST is characterized by its small incision, sutureless approach, anterior-to-posterior tunnel creation, and allograft-free design. The technique involves creating a scleral tunnel using a 1-mm crescent knife (Bleb Knife II), allowing for secure tube placement into the anterior chamber, ciliary sulcus, or vitreous cavity.

Parasitic myoma is a relatively rare disease in which one or more leiomyomas form outside the uterus; however, the detailed causes are unknown. Few sporadic reports are available, and per our research, the maximum number of parasitic myomas reported to date was 26, and almost all cases were treated by surgical resection. We report a rare case of numerous parasitic myomas in the abdominal cavity, possibly including an intrathoracic lesion, which could not be resected completely.

This prospective observational study involved a 36-month follow-up of physicians working in an ophthalmic examination room equipped with 222-nm UV-C lamps. Initially, a 12-month observation showed no signs of acute or chronic ocular damage.

The applied pressures on the damage can be conveniently read by taking a photograph via a homemade mobile app called the "Pressure Analysis App". The key aspects of the development were 1) the adjustment of the sensitivity by adding guest molecules into the PDA matrix, 2) quantitative calibration, and 3) the accurate reading of the pressure from RGB images based on the calibration.
