Introduction: New reconstructive and less invasive methods have been searched to optimize bone formation and osseointegration of dental implants in maxillary sinus augmentation.

Purpose: The aim of the presented ovine split-mouth study was to compare bovine bone mineral (BBM) alone and in combination with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) regarding their potential in sinus augmentation.

Material And Methods: Bilateral sinus floor augmentations were performed in six adult sheep.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of expanding the treatment zone of the Nidek EC-5000 laser on postoperative visual acuity as well as night glare and halos after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) using 4 ablation zone diameters.

Setting: Division of Ophthalmology, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and Northwestern University Medical School, Glenview, Illinois, USA.

Methods: This prospective study comprised 301 eyes of 154 consecutive patients who had LASIK in 1 or both eyes using the Nidek EC-5000 laser by 1 surgeon with experience in keratomileusis and excimer laser refractive surgery.

Structure and function of a regulated archaeal triosephosphate isomerase adapted to high temperature.

Triosephophate isomerase (TIM) is a dimeric enzyme in eucarya, bacteria and mesophilic archaea. In hyperthermophilic archaea, however, TIM exists as a tetramer composed of monomers that are about 10% shorter than other eucaryal and bacterial TIM monomers. We report here the crystal structure of TIM from Thermoproteus tenax, a hyperthermophilic archaeon that has an optimum growth temperature of 86 degrees C.

[The influence of various adjuvant drugs used in intensive care on monocyte chemotaxis].

Objective: Monocytes play an important part in all phases of both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. In our study, we examined the influence of various drugs used in intensive care (omeprazole, ranitidine, potassium canrenoate, furosemide, clonidine, verapamil, and metamizole) on monocyte chemotaxis in vitro. The 0,1 fold, 1 fold, and 10 fold concentrations, which are detectable in serum after a clinically efficacious bolus injection of the respective drug, were tested.
