Long-term exposure to high ammonia concentrations could severely impact chicken health. On the other hand, luteolin has been shown to protect against ammonia poisoning. Although phosphorylation is critically involved in toxicity induction, the specific role of phosphorylated proteins in ammonia poisoning remains unclear.

Mitochondrial dysfunction is a central aspect of Parkinson's disease (PD) pathology, yet the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This study investigates the link between α-Synuclein (α-Syn) pathology and the loss of translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane 40 (TOM40), unraveling its implications for mitochondrial dysfunctions in neurons. We discovered that TOM40 protein depletion occurs in the brains of patients with Guam Parkinsonism-Dementia (Guam PD) and cultured neurons expressing α-Syn proteinopathy, notably, without corresponding changes in TOM40 mRNA levels.

The upcoming era of flexible and wearable electronics necessitates the development of low-cost, flexible, biocompatible substrates amenable to the fabrication of active devices such as electronic devices, sensors and transducers. While natural biopolymers such as Silk are robust and biocompatible, long-term flexibility is a concern due to the inherent brittle nature of soft Silk thin films. This work elucidates the preparation and characterization of Silk-polyurethane (Silk-PU) composite film that provides long-duration flexibility.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of aortic stenosis. With the recently broadened indications, there is a larger cohort of patients likely to outlive their first transcatheter heart valve (THV). This review discusses relevant lifetime planning considerations, focusing on the utility of preprocedural computed tomography imaging to help implanters future-proof their patients who are likely to outlive their first valve.

Aminocarbonylation reactions play a critical role in the synthesis of amides. Traditional aminocarbonylation processes often rely on carbon monoxide (CO) gas, a highly toxic and challenging reagent to handle. Recent advancements in CO surrogates address these challenges.
