Borrelia miyamotoi spirochete is carried by Ixodidae ticks and causing Borrelia miyamotoi disease (BMD), a relapsing fever illness reported worldwide, often in the same geographic areas where Lyme disease is endemic. The purpose of this study was to examine the presence of B. miyamotoi infection in Dermacentor reticulatus and Ixodes ricinus ticks collected within the boundaries of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, Ukraine.

We hypothesized that horses from larger group sizes would have higher faecal egg counts (FECs). The relationship between FECs and the year and season of sample collection, and age, sex and group size of the horses was analyzed.

- A total of 524 ticks were collected, identified as three species, and analyzed for pathogens using PCR, revealing varying prevalence rates of different pathogens among ticks.
- This research is significant as it provides the first prevalence data for certain pathogens in three Ukrainian regions and the first detection of Neoehrlichia mikurensis in ixodid ticks there.
