Background: The intercostobrachial nerve (ICBN) typically originates from the lateral cutaneous branch of the second intercostal nerve (T2). The ICBN may sometimes arise from the lateral cutaneous branch of T3. Many authors have undertaken ICBN studies as it is a highly variable structure with numerous morphological patterns reported.

Article Synopsis
  • The forearm extensor muscle and hand extensor tendons show significant anatomical variability, highlighted during a dissection of a 74-year-old male cadaver.
  • An accessory muscle known as the extensor digitorum brevis manus (EDBM) was discovered, which connected to the extensor indicis (EI) tendon, indicating a rare anatomical variant.
  • This variant has a prevalence rate of 0.36-0.38% in cadaver studies, and understanding such variations is crucial for orthopedic and plastic surgeons to prevent accidental injuries during procedures.

The 7th cervical vertebra (C7) is described as having the most prominent spinous process (SP) and is characterized as the "vertebra prominens" (VP) of the cervical spine in anatomy textbooks. The VP is an important anatomical landmark of the neck for clinical examination and therapeutic intervention. The present study identifies the level of the most prominent SP of the cervical and uppermost thoracic vertebrae in a cadaveric cohort.

We enjoyed reading the Brumpt et al. paper, which showed that a three-dimensional printed model (3DPM) of the ear was more effective than conventional cadaveric models for teaching anatomy. We would like to comment on the findings of this exciting study.
