High quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation and medical care in an emergency can save lives, especially when resources are limited, as when in flight on a commercial airplane. A medical student or resident may be the most qualified person to offer assistance during an in-flight cardiac arrest; however, he/she may not yet have experience acting as a sole provider on the ground. Moreover, physicians-in-training may feel an ethical obligation to help a fellow passenger in need, but later worry that their help is subject to questions of tort liability action.

New extralimital breeding records of saltmarsh sparrows () and Nelson's sparrows () and their implications.

Saltmarsh () and Nelson's () sparrows are sister taxa that breed in tidal marshes along the coast of the Northeastern United States and Canada. The Saltmarsh Sparrow breeds from mid-coast Maine south to Virginia, while the Acadian Nelson's Sparrow breeds from the Canadian maritime provinces south to northern Massachusetts. Here, we present three extralimital observations of breeding Saltmarsh ( = 2) and Nelson's ( = 1) sparrows.

The perioperative environment has traditionally been viewed as a deterministic system in which outcomes can be predicted, but recent studies suggest that the operating room behaves more like a complex adaptive system, in which events can interact and connect with each other in unpredictable and unplanned ways.
