Enhanced warming of European mountain permafrost in the early 21st century.

Mountain permafrost, constituting 30% of the global permafrost area, is sensitive to climate change and strongly impacts mountain ecosystems and communities. This study examines 21st century permafrost warming in European mountains using decadal ground temperature data from sixty-four boreholes in the Alps, Scandinavia, Iceland, Sierra Nevada and Svalbard. During 2013-2022, warming rates at 10 metres depth exceed 1 °C dec in cases, generally surpassing previous estimates because of accelerated warming and the use of a comprehensive data set.

Integumentary and musculoskeletal indications for surgery predominate in a 15-year study of search-and-rescue dogs.

Objective: Analyze data from a 15-year longitudinal study of search-and-rescue (SAR) dogs to determine the indications for surgery and evaluate whether the risk varied by breed, sex, neutering, or deployment status during 9/11.

Methods: 150 SAR dogs: 95 dogs deployed to sites from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and 55 SAR dogs not deployed to these sites. Search-and-rescue dog handlers completed an annual health survey until the dog's death, or the handler withdrew from the study.

Owner-Reported Health Events in Australian Farm Working Dogs.

Working farm dogs are an integral part of livestock farming in Australia but, currently, no studies have investigated their overall health. This study aimed to identify the prevalent diseases and injuries among these dogs, offering a baseline dataset. A total of 125 farm dog owners were recruited at a public working dog event and interviewed about the health of their dogs in the preceding 12 months.

Exploring the curricular and pedagogical decision criteria for research-based learning design in undergraduate studies.

Learning design has a multifaceted nature requiring a range of course- and institutional considerations. Analyzing the decision criteria's influence on research-based learning design helps understand the causes of the success/failure of the approach in achieving the teaching goals to improve the study programs. This study explores the interrelationship between the curricular and pedagogical criteria for research-based learning design decisions at the undergraduate level.
