Introduction: Many breast cancer therapeutics target the PI3K/AKT/mTOR oncogenic pathway. Development of resistance to the therapeutics targeting this pathway is a frequent occurrence. Therapeutics targeting p70S6K1, a downstream member of this pathway, have recently gained importance due to its critical role in all types of breast cancer and its status as a prognostic marker.

Rural communities in the United States have seen a steep rise in opioid use disorder (OUD) during pregnancy, with a parallel increase in neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS). The birthing person-infant dyads affected by OUD and NOWS in rural areas face many barriers to accessing care. Innovative approaches have proven successful in improving health outcomes for affected birthing persons and newborns, but more work is needed to continue to improve access to prevention, treatment, and additional support services for this vulnerable population.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is frequently detected in late stages, which leads to limited therapeutic options and a dismal overall survival rate. To date, no robust method for the detection of early-stage PDAC that can be used for targeted screening approaches is available. Liquid biopsy allows the minimally invasive collection of body fluids (typically peripheral blood) and the subsequent analysis of circulating tumor cells or tumor-associated molecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, or metabolites that may be useful for the early diagnosis of PDAC.

Background: Centralized scheduling of nursing professionals is regarded as an effective strategy for optimizing workforce allocation and mitigating critical staffing shortages. The aim of this review is to (1) determine the effect of centralized scheduling on unit productivity (ie, overtime, contract labor, and floating), time savings for managers, and staff perceptions and retention and (2) discuss current approaches in the implementation of centralized scheduling in inpatient hospital settings.

Methods: This rapid review of the evidence follows methodological guidance from the Cochrane Rapid Reviews Methods Group.

Article Synopsis
  • During the 2023 soybean growing season in South Dakota, wilting symptoms and blighted leaves were observed in soybean plants, prompting the collection of symptomatic samples for pathogen identification.
  • Researchers used a method involving surface sterilization and incubation on wet filter paper, leading to fungal growth and isolation of a pathogen identified as Fusarium luffae with high genetic similarity to known strains.
  • The pathogenicity of the isolated fungus was assessed through spray inoculations on soybean leaves and plants, indicating its potential impact on soybean crops.
