Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how radiation therapy technologists (RTTs) in India use and reuse thermoplastic masks (TMs) and their awareness of the environmental impact of TM disposal.
  • A survey involving 430 RTTs revealed that a majority reuse TMs, particularly in government facilities, and 74.4% are aware of the adverse environmental effects related to TM disposal.
  • The findings underscore the need for improved biomedical waste management to ensure proper handling and disposal of used TMs in healthcare settings.

As lead molecules, cyclic lipopeptides with antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties have garnered a lot of attention in recent years. Because of their potential, cyclic lipopeptides have earned recognition as a significant class of antimicrobial compounds with applications in pharmacology and biotechnology. These lipopeptides, often with biosurfactant properties, are amphiphilic, consisting of a hydrophilic moiety, like a carboxyl group, peptide backbone, or carbohydrates, and a hydrophobic moiety, mostly a fatty acid.

Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are crucial covalent processes that alter protein properties, achieved through proteolytic cleavage or addition of modifying groups like acetyl, phosphoryl, glycosyl, or methyl to amino acids. ADP-ribosylation is a reversible post-translational modification, where ADP-ribose units are covalently attached to target protein side chains. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent angiogenic factor that plays a key role in physiological and pathological conditions.

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) based sustainable composites incorporated with cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) (CC) at different concentrations (1, 3, 5 and 10 wt%) were prepared using solvent casting method. Performance analysis of PLA/CC composite films in terms of food packaging properties like thermal, optical, oxygen barrier, mechanical, anti-bacterial as well as anti-oxidant effect is carried out. The PLA/CC-5 composite showed complete blockage of UV-B light at 320 nm, which is known to significantly induce the photo-chemical degradation of polymers.

Storage temperature fluctuation is a major problem faced in food and pharmaceutical industry, apart from prevailing fraud in marketing frozen products as fresh. The present work aimed to study the effect of intrinsic properties of chitosan on synthesis and performance of gold nanoparticles as smart packaging devices. Different types of Chitosan from shrimp waste were used as reducing and capping agent in the synthesis of metal nanoparticle.
