Objective: Increasingly, medical schools integrate clinical skills into early didactic coursework. The Stop the Bleed® Campaign emphasizes prehospital hemorrhage control to reduce preventable deaths; however, this course overlooks team interactions. We assessed the impact of high-fidelity simulation during medical student orientation on identification and treatment of life-threatening hemorrhage in a team setting.

A review from the last seven years (August 2016-July 2023) of questions posted to the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) website "Questions about PD" by nurses and physicians from around the world revealed that 19 of the questions were associated with optimal approaches for preventing, assessing, and managing issues related to PD catheter non-infectious complications. Our review focused on responses to these questions whereby existing best practice recommendations were considered, if available, relevant literature was cited and differences in international practices discussed. We combined similar questions, revised both the original questions and responses for clarity, as well as updated the references to these questions.

Interferon-gamma (IFNγ) ELISpot and FluoroSpot are widely used assays to detect functional cell responses in immunotherapy clinical studies. Recognized for their importance in vaccine development studies to quantitate immune responses, these assays have more recently risen to the forefront in cell and gene therapy as well as cancer immunotherapy fields where responses against cancer neoantigens are not easily detectable above assay background. Here, we test a new class of fetal bovine serum (FBS), CultraPure FBS, in ex vivo ELISpot and FluoroSpot assays and cultured FluoroSpot assays following in vitro expansion.

Objective: To design and develop a Portable Auditory Localization Acclimation Training (PALAT) system capable of producing psychoacoustically accurate localization cues; evaluate the training effect against a proven full-scale, laboratory-grade system under three listening conditions; and determine if the PALAT system is sensitive to differences among electronic level-dependent hearing protection devices (HPDs).

Background: In-laboratory auditory localization training has demonstrated the ability to improve localization performance with the open (natural) ear, that is, unoccluded, and while wearing HPDs. The military requires a portable system capable of imparting similar training benefits as those demonstrated in laboratory experiments.

Four experiments investigated the attentional white bear (AWB) effect, in which attention increases for an upcoming distractor, and identified two key factors that interact to determine when it occurs: learned attentional set and top-down attentional control. Participants do not show enhanced attention if they begin the experiment with trials that include distractors; the effect only appears in participants who start with a block of trials without distractors. The presence or absence of distractors induces participants to adopt an attentional set that they then maintain when the distractor condition changes.
