Urolithiasis is a highly prevalent global disease with substantially increasing incidence in the last two decades. Data from the literature suggests that 26%-50% of patients will have a recurrence within 10 years after an initial symptomatic stone episode. Therefore, interest has been raised in preventive strategies, aiming to modify the risk factors of stone recurrence by implementing dietary and lifestyle changes and specific medical treatments for stone formers, depending on their recurrence risk factors.

The International Alliance of Urolithiasis (IAU) would like to release the latest guideline on percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and to provide a clinical framework for surgeons performing PCNLs. These recommendations were collected and appraised from a systematic review and assessment of the literature covering all aspects of PCNLs from the PubMed database between January 1, 1976, and July 31, 2021. Each generated recommendation was graded using a modified GRADE methodology.

Objective: To study urinary stone composition patterns in different populations around the world.

Materials And Methods: Data were collected by reviewing charts of 1204 adult patients of 10 countries with renal or ureteral stones (> 18 years) in whom a stone analysis was done and available. Any method of stone analysis was accepted, but the methodology had to be registered.
