This paper addresses the use of ultrabright dye-based fluorescent organic nanoparticles in a 3D single-particle tracking two-photon microscopy setup. The nanoparticles consist of an assembly of quadrupolar dyes, presenting a large two-photon absorption cross-section. They exhibit low photobleaching, crucial for long-term tracking, and their high brightness allows nanometer localization precision.

All viruses on Earth rely on host cell machinery for replication, a process that involves a complex self-assembly mechanism. Our aim here is to scrutinize in real time the growth of icosahedral viral nucleocapsids with single-molecule precision. Using total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy, we probed the binding and unbinding dynamics of fluorescently labeled capsid subunits on hundreds of immobilized viral RNA molecules simultaneously at each time point.

Understanding the dynamics of electrical signals within neuronal assemblies is crucial to unraveling complex brain functions. Despite recent advances in employing optically active nanostructures in transmembrane potential sensing, there remains room for improvement in terms of response time and sensitivity. Here, we report the development of such a nanosensor capable of detecting electric fields with a submillisecond response time at the single-particle level.

Ferroelectric materials display exotic polarization textures at the nanoscale that could be used to improve the energetic efficiency of electronic components. The vast majority of studies were conducted in two dimensions on thin films that can be further nanostructured, but very few studies address the situation of individual isolated nanocrystals (NCs) synthesized in solution, while such structures could have other fields of applications. In this work, we experimentally and theoretically studied the polarization texture of ferroelectric barium titanate (BaTiO, BTO) NCs attached to a conductive substrate and surrounded by air.

We devise a method to detect and estimate forces in a heterogeneous environment based on experimentally recorded stochastic trajectories. In particular, we focus on systems modeled by the heterogeneous overdamped Langevin equation. Here, the observed drift includes a "spurious" force term when the diffusivity varies in space.
