Multiple abscesses of the left brain hemisphere due to Listeria monocytogenes in an immunocompromised patient: a case report.

We describe a case of brain abscesses in a cirrhotic and diabetic 57-year-old woman showing fever, aphasia, right hemiparesis and seizures. Neuroradiological investigation revealed unilateral cerebritis evolving in multiple abscesses. From blood and surgical drainage samples Listeria monocytogenes grew in pure culture.

Percutaneous treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc hernias with discogel.

A new percutaneous technique for the treatment of the backache and sciatica related to the lumbar disc herniation was applied in 34 patients at 40 levels. The technique is easy, safe, efficacious and without complications. In particular it is useful for the diagnosis and treatment of the underestimated "internal disc disruption" syndrome.

An unusual case of brain abscess by Gemella morbillorum.

A case of deep brain abscess by Gemella morbillorum is described. Due to high fever, lethargy, severe headache, and the risk of intraventricular rupture of the suppurative lesion, a CT-guided stereotactic aspiration of the abscess was successfully performed. The patient responded well to a 6-week course of meropenem, metronidazole, and fluconazole.

Cerebral MR venography of transverse sinuses in subjects with normal CSF pressure.

Flow artifacts or anatomic variants of venous sinuses often make MR venography (MRV) interpretation difficult. The authors investigated cerebral MRV in 111 subjects with normal CSF pressure to identify the most common flow abnormalities of transverse sinuses (TS). Disturbance of venous outflow in one transverse sinus was commonly observed in 30% of subjects whereas flow abnormalities of both TS occurred in 2 of 111 individuals.
