We recently established a method for the isolation of serum-free oligosaccharides, and characterized various features of their structures. However, the precise mechanism for how these glycans are formed still remains unclarified. To further investigate the mechanism responsible for these serum glycans, here, we utilized rat primary hepatocytes to examine whether they are able to secrete free glycans.

We investigated the findings of rectoanal lesions in 190 patients who underwent colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) at our hospital. Internal hemorrhoids were observed in 70 (36.8%) patients and rectal polyps in 19 (10%) patients.

The condition known as frailty is a phenotype of aging and its comprehensive pathophysiology is thought to be closely related to the incidence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and the exacerbation of dementia.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of the multicomponent drug, ninjin'yoeito (NYT), on frailty in MCI and mild AD patients.

Background: Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE), which became clinically applicable in 2006, is a simple and noninvasive procedure to evaluate colonic diseases; the accuracy of second-generation CCE, introduced in 2009, has dramatically improved. Currently, CCE is used as an alternative method for colorectal cancer screening, as well as for evaluating the mucosal lesions of inflammatory bowel disease, in cases where performing colonoscopy (CS) is difficult. However, the outcomes of CCE are uncertain.

We investigated the correlation between Bacteroidetes species abundance and UC activity. Fecal samples from 34 healthy controls and 52 patients with active UC (Lichtiger's clinical activity index ≥5 or Mayo endoscopic subscore ≥1) were subjected to next-generation sequencing with as a target in bacterial metagenome analysis.
