Incidence of different types of cancer in the follow-up period after primary diagnosis and treatment of melanoma. Single-centre 4-year follow-up on a population of 709 patients.

Introduction: Follow-up plays a key role in melanoma management, especially in the first years after diagnosis. During this period it is crucial to assess possible recurrence, progression of the disease or treatment complications. An important aspect is also the possibility of formation of new primary foci or other skin cancers.

Continuous-wave parallel interferometric near-infrared spectroscopy (CW NIRS) with a fast two-dimensional camera.

Interferometric near-infrared spectroscopy (iNIRS) is an optical method that noninvasively measures the optical and dynamic properties of the human brain . However, the original iNIRS technique uses single-mode fibers for light collection, which reduces the detected light throughput. The reduced light throughput is compensated by the relatively long measurement or integration times (∼1 sec), which preclude monitoring of rapid blood flow changes that could be linked to neural activation.

COVID-19 disparities by gender and income: Evidence from the Philippines.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting containment policies have hit the Philippines harder than most developing countries. The government lockdown is among the strictest in the world, and blanket school closures are the lengthiest. This article uses a novel simulation model to estimate the gendered and regional impacts of these factors on labour, income and poverty, and a case study of school closures points to the losses in employment among private school teachers and in the income of parents with young children.

Role of the APRIL molecule in solid tumors.

The APRIL molecule, produced by immune cells, their precursors, and cancer cells, is one of the important factors that influences the process of survival and proliferation of cancer cells. In the present review, we summarize the current knowledge on the effects of APRIL on human cancer development and develop a scheme demonstrating the mechanism of the action of APRIL on solid tumors. Understanding the effects of APRIL, including the intracellular signal transduction pathway, may be key for the use of this protein as a biomarker of the cancer process.

Dishwashers as an Extreme Environment of Potentially Pathogenic Yeast Species.

The study aimed to compare the yeast species diversity in the specific environment of dishwashers, taking into account the potential risk for users. Yeasts were isolated from ten dishwashers and from tap water supplied to the appliances. Samples were collected for mycological analyses at the beginning of each month, from February to May 2016.
