Article Synopsis
  • The Achilles tendon, the body's strongest tendon, is susceptible to injury due to limited blood supply, affecting athletes, laborers, and the elderly.
  • This study explores a new treatment using a tissue-engineered tendon product made from decellularized tendon (DT), stem cells, and an extract from Tinospora cordifolia, which shows promise in promoting tissue regeneration.
  • The research demonstrates that the DT construct is non-toxic and has strong regenerative potential, offering a cost-effective alternative for tendon repair, thereby benefiting various groups prone to tendon injuries.

Unlabelled: The current research work focuses on the identification of cardioprotective effect of the ethanolic extract of Sauropus androgynus (EESA) leaves. Sauropus androgynus leaves are being utilized in folk and ayurvedic medicines in India to treat cardiovascular diseases like myocardial infraction, atherosclerosis, and venous thrombosis. However, the cardioprotective effects associated with the leaf extract of this plant has not yet been established.

Tendon is a collagenous tissue to connect bone and muscle. Healing of damaged/injured tendon is the primary clinical challenge in musculoskeletal regeneration because they often react poorly to treatment. Tissue engineering (a triad strategy of scaffolds, cells and growth factors) may have the potential to improve the quality of tendon tissue healing under such impaired situations.
