Asymmetrical hydrocephalus following ventriculitis from rupture of a thalamic abscess.

Ventriculitis developed suddenly in a patient with an undiagnosed abscess and was accompanied by obtundation, fever, meningismus, and hemiplegia. Aspiration of a streptococcal thalamic abscess and high doses of intravenous penicillin produced marked improvement. Increasing dysphasia 5 weeks later was accompanied by ventricular dilatation, most marked on the left, with no evidence of recurrent abscess.

Subarachnoid dissemination of thoracic chordoma.

Chordoma at the T-9 level, originally manifested by lumbosacral radiculopathy, developed in a 50-year-old man. The patient underwent three operations and radiation therapy for this condition, but ten years later, thoracic myelopathy developed, followed by left facial weakness. On autopsy, extensive dissemination of chordoma was found along the base of the brain and in the leptomeninges of the spinal cord.

Alterations of hepatic triglyceride in patients before and after jejunoileal bypass for morbid obesity.

The effect of obesity and jejunoileal bypass on the amount and composition of hepatic lipid and the relationship of adipose tissue fatty acids, body weight, and rate of weight reduction to hepatic triglyceride (TG) were investigated in 16 patients before and at various times after jejunoileal bypass. Liver and adipose tissue biopsy sections were taken at surgery and at various times thereafter. Hepatic lipid was measured and the composition of triglyceride fatty acids (TGFA) compared with that of adipose tissue.

Leiomyosarcoma metastatic to the brain.

A rare instance of leiomyosarcoma metastatic to the brain in a 60-year-old male is presented. The primary site was in the gastrointestinal tract. Previously reported cases of similar nature are reviewed.
