Active functionalities of metasurfaces are of growing interest in nanophotonics. The main strategy employed to date is spectral resonance tuning affecting predominantly the far-field response. However, this barely influences other essential resonance properties like near-field enhancement, signal modulation, quality factor, and absorbance, which are all vital for numerous applications.

Structural color filters use nano-sized elements to selectively transmit incident light, offering a scalable, economical, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional pigment- and dye-based color filters. However, their structural nature makes their optical response prone to spectral shifts whenever the angle of incidence varies. We address this issue by introducing a conformal VO layer onto bare aluminum structural color filters.

Introduction: Radon is a major indoor air pollutant that poses a significant risk of lung cancer to those exposed in their homes. While mitigation of high radon levels in homes has been shown to be effective, home mitigation rates remain low. This study examines the barriers and facilitators to radon mitigation in homes from the perspectives of authorities responsible for radon risk management, the mitigation industry (contractors), and residents in four European countries (Belgium, Ireland, Slovenia, and the UK) with high radon risks and low mitigation rates.

We report on the optical properties of a CsPbBr polycrystalline thin film on a single grain level. A sample composed of isolated nanocrystals (NCs) mimicking the properties of the polycrystalline thin film grains that can be individually probed by photoluminescence spectroscopy was prepared. These NCs were analyzed using correlative microscopy allowing the examination of structural, chemical, and optical properties from identical sites.

Industrial processes generate various quantities of waste that can be contaminated with radionuclides of natural origin (naturally occurring radioactive material ('NORM waste')). The efficient management of this waste is essential for any industries affected by NORM waste generation. To obtain an overview of current practices and approaches in Europe, the IRPA Task Group on NORM conducted a survey among task group members and other experts from European countries.
