High-numerical-aperture and high-efficiency polarization-based metalenses with pitch size control utilizing silicon-rich nitride.

This study investigates the role of pitch size in achieving high numerical aperture (NA) and focusing efficiency in metalens design, while demonstrating how high refractive index materials contribute to performance enhancement by enabling smaller pitch sizes through reduced filling ratios. Silicon-rich nitride (SRN) was chosen as the material platform due to its high refractive index, CMOS compatibility, and cost-effective fabrication. Two SRN-based metalenses were designed: a geometric phase metalens (GPM) and a propagation phase metalens (PPM), each evaluated at aspect ratios of 10:1 and 4:1.

Evaluating Paediatric Injury Hospitalisations From Indoor Trampoline Parks Across Australia: A Multi-Centre Study.

Aim: The introduction and increasing popularity of indoor trampoline facilities has seen increases in the incidence of trampoline park injuries (TPIs), particularly amongst the paediatric population. A challenge to the development of effective injury prevention interventions is the limited study pool of detailed activity and outcome data to provide better understanding of the characteristics of injurious events.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of individuals under 16 years of age hospitalised after TPI from November 2018 to December 2021 was conducted.

Identification of Malignancy in Peritumoral Edema in Soft Tissue Sarcoma: A Novel Targeted Molecular Approach.

Background: Peritumoral edema on staging magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is associated with higher local recurrence in soft tissue sarcoma (STS). This may relate to the presence of satellite malignant cells that are difficult to distinguish from benign atypia, leading to over- or undertreatment. This study evaluated a novel targeted molecular approach to identify malignancy in STS peritumoral planes as a means to improve personalized care.

Curative-intent surgery for solitary bone metastasis from extremity and trunk wall sarcoma: What are the outcomes and complications?

Introduction: Approximately 40-50 % of sarcoma patients will develop lung metastasis, but only 10 % will develop bone metastasis. The survival benefit of surgery for solitary bone metastasis remains unclear.

Methods: From 1987 to 2019, 47 patients who underwent curative-intent treatment for localized bone or soft tissue sarcoma in the extremities or trunk wall developed solitary bone metastases as the first distant recurrence.

Investigating the Use of Circulating Tumor DNA for Sarcoma Management.

: Sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of cancers, many with high rates of recurrence and metastasis, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Due to a lack of early diagnostic biomarkers, by the time recurrent disease can be clinically detected, it is often extensive and difficult to treat. Here, we sought to investigate methods of detecting ctDNA in sarcoma patient plasma to potentially monitor disease recurrence, progression, and response to treatment.
