Purpose: To assess the prevalence and risk factors of myopic macular degeneration (MMD) in young and middle-aged individuals with high myopia in Changsha, central China.
Methods: A total of 445 adults with high myopia (worse than or equal to -5.0 D) were examined between 2021 and 2023.
In this study, a tetradentate Pt(II) complex designed to have -heterocyclic carbene ligands modified with an anchor-shaped 2,6-diisopropylphenyl (dip) group is described to enhance molecular rigidity for narrow emission and high efficiency. The tetradentate ligand with the dip group significantly hinders steric interactions and restricts π-conjugation from benzocarbene, leading to shallow lowest unoccupied molecular orbital levels and a consequent reduction in the triplet metal-to-ligand charge transfer character. These structural modifications result in narrow emission spectra and enhanced efficiency for blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) over wide doping concentration ranges.

Unlike apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy, ferroptosis is a novel type of regulated cell death, and the mechanism by which selenium nanoparticles induce ferroptosis in cancer cells has rarely been investigated. To investigate the mechanism of inhibition of HepG2 cell proliferation by fucoidan-selenium nanoparticles (FD-SeNPs) by inducing ferroptosis. The mechanism was explored by detecting ROS, MDA, GSH and Fe and utilizing TEM and Western blot assay.

Here we challenge this notion by demonstrating that wetting the desiccated cornea of an aqueous-deficient mouse model with the simplest form of lubrication, a saline-based solution, is sufficient to rescue the severely disrupted collagen-rich architecture of the stroma, the largest corneal compartment that is essential to transparency and vision. At the single cell level we show that stromal keratocytes responsible for maintaining stromal integrity are converted from an inflammatory state into unique reparative cell states by lubrication alone, thus revealing the extensive plasticity of these cells and the regenerative function of lubricating the surface.
