Background: Metastatic uveal melanoma (mUM) is rare. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown modest efficacy in mUM. Tebentafusp prolonged overall survival (OS) in a phase 3 study.

The 2023 Cure Ocular Melanoma (CURE OM) Global Science Meeting was held in Philadelphia on November 6, 2023. There is increased awareness and dedicated research in uveal melanoma (UM), but unmet needs remain in the prevention, detection, and treatment of UM. The purpose of this meeting was to provide an international forum for the exchange of research ideas, to allow for discussion of basic science as well as clinical research on UM, and to gather input about advocacy and patient needs.

Tinnitus is a common annoying symptom without effective and accepted treatment. In this controlled experimental study, photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), which uses light to modulate and repair target tissue, was used to treat sodium salicylate (SS)-induced tinnitus in a rat animal model. Here, PBMT was performed simultaneously on the peripheral and central regions involved in tinnitus.

Surveillance frequency for metastasis is guided by gene expression profiling (GEP). This study evaluated the effect of GEP on time to diagnosis of metastasis, subsequent treatment and survival. A retrospective study was conducted of 110 uveal melanoma patients with GEP (DecisionDx-UM, Castle Biosciences, Friendswood, Texas, USA) and 110 American Joint Committee on Cancer-matched controls.

Purpose: Somatic chromosomal alterations, particularly monosomy 3 and 8q gains, have been associated with metastatic risk in uveal melanoma (UM). Whole genome-scale evaluation of detectable alterations in cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in UM could provide valuable prognostic information. Our pilot study evaluates the correlation between genomic information using ultra-low-pass whole-genome sequencing (ULP-WGS) of cfDNA in UM and associated clinical outcomes.
