The synthetic cadaver is a high-fidelity model intended to replace or supplement other anatomy learning modalities. Academic attainment and student perceptions were examined in an undergraduate human anatomy course using a combination of plastic models and synthetic cadavers to learn lower body anatomy ("Experimental group"), compared to a Historical group who used only plastic models. It is generally considered that variation in mechanical exposure is beneficial from the viewpoint of preventing musculoskeletal disorders. An approach to quantifying the functional similarity of manual tasks was developed and tested by using three handgrips: power grip (PG); pulp pinch (PP); lateral pinch (LP). A method for solving boundary value problems (BVPs) is introduced using artificial neural networks (ANNs) for irregular domain boundaries with mixed Dirichlet/Neumann boundary conditions (BCs). The approximate ANN solution automatically satisfies BCs at all stages of training, including before training commences. This method is simpler than other ANN methods for solving BVPs due to its unconstrained nature and because automatic satisfaction of Dirichlet BCs provides a good starting approximate solution for significant portions of the domain.
