The role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers - A literature review.

Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs) are chronic foot wounds, in a person with diabetes, which are associated with peripheral arterial insufficiency and/or peripheral neuropathy of the lower limb. Recent UK audit figures report that approximately 50-60 % of DFUs remain unhealed after 12 weeks. Previous research has suggested that ischaemia plays a key role in the pathophysiology of many chronic wounds, including DFUs.

Public health, pluralism, and the telos of political virtue.

In the ethics of public health, questions of virtue, that is, of what it means for public health to act excellently, have received little attention. This omission needs remedy first because achieving improvements in population-wide health can be in tension with goals like respect for the liberty, self-determination, or non-oppression of various individuals or groups. A virtue-ethics approach is flexible and well-suited for the kind of deliberation required to resolve or mitigate such tension.

Artificial Intelligence and Health Inequities in Dietary Interventions on Atherosclerosis: A Narrative Review.

Poor diet is the top modifiable mortality risk factor globally, accounting for 11 million deaths annually with half being from diet-linked atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Yet, most of the world cannot afford a healthy diet-as the hidden costs of the inadequate global food system total over USD 13 trillion annually-let alone the much more clinically, financially, and ecologically costly and resource-intensive medical interventions required to address the disease progression and acute complications of ASCVD. Yet, AI is increasingly understood as a force multiplying revolutionary technology which may catalyze multi-sector efforts in medicine and public health to better address these significant health challenges.

A Comprehensive Integration and Synthesis of Methane Emissions from Canada's Oil and Gas Value Chain.

Methane emissions from the global oil and gas value chain are a major contributor to climate change, and their mitigation could avoid 0.1 °C of warming by 2050. Here, we synthesize nearly a decade of research encompassing thousands of multiscale methane measurements along the oil and gas value chain (production to end use) to better constrain estimates of methane emissions from Canada's energy sector and to identify research gaps contributing to uncertainty in current estimates.

Land-Based Retreats as a Method for Building Enabling Environments for HIV Prevention with Northern and Indigenous Adolescents in the Northwest Territories, Canada: Mixed-Methods Findings.

The Northwest Territories (NWT), Canada has high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STI) that elevate HIV acquisition risks. We conducted a mixed-methods study to explore the potential of land-based peer leader retreats (PLR) in building HIV prevention enabling environments among Northern and Indigenous youth in the NWT. PLRs are grounded in Indigenous principles and ways of knowing, acknowledging the land as a physical, spiritual, emotional, and intellectual being with the potential to facilitate (re)connection to culture, community, and self.
