The perianal abscess is a common emergency surgical presentation. While in most cases simple drainage suffices, occasionally the abscess can track deeply presenting a management challenge. We describe the case of a complex circumferential horseshoe ischioanal abscess with extension below the levator ani through the greater sciatic notch and into the left gluteal region, with the collection involving the intergluteal space and gluteus maximus.

Strides have been made in sleep-related clinical trials to include equal numbers of women; however, the inclusion of female rodents in neuroscience and sleep research is lacking. Female animals are commonly omitted from studies over concerns of the effect of estrus cycle hormones on measured outcomes.

TFG regulates inner COPII coat recruitment to facilitate anterograde secretory protein transport.

Coat protein complex II (COPII) governs the initial steps of biosynthetic secretory protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), facilitating the movement of a wide variety of cargoes. Here, we demonstrate that Trk-fused gene (TFG) regulates the rate at which inner COPII coat proteins are concentrated at ER subdomains. Specifically, in cells lacking TFG, the GTPase-activating protein (GAP) Sec23 accumulates more rapidly at budding sites on the ER as compared with control cells, potentially altering the normal timing of GTP hydrolysis on Sar1.

Purpose: Fluoropyrimidine-related toxicity and mortality risk increases significantly in patients carrying certain genetic variants with standard dosing. We implemented genotyping at a multisite cancer center and evaluated its impact on dosing, toxicity, and hospitalization.

Methods: In this prospective observational study, patients receiving (reactive) or planning to receive (pretreatment) fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy were genotyped for five variants as standard practice per provider discretion.
