[Rehabilitation and psychological follow-up of a child with talipes equinovarus].

In France, one child in every 800 is born with talipes equinovarus. This congenital deformity of the foot prevents the flexion and extension of the ankle. Follow-up by a psychologist is essential during the care of a child with this condition, in parallel with functional rehabilitation by the masseur-physiotherapist.

State of the art: sedation concepts with volatile anesthetics in critically Ill patients.

The use of volatile anesthetics in the intensive care unit (ICU) has only been possible at great cost with the use of commercially available anesthesia systems. A new anesthetic-conserving device (AnaConDa) now facilitates, from a technical viewpoint, the routine use of volatile anesthetics in intensive care patients as part of prolonged sedation, using ICU ventilators. The volatile anesthetic is hereby applied continually via a syringe pump into a miniature vaporizer, which is integrated into the ventilator circuit in place of the usual respiratory filter.

[Sedation concepts with volatile anaesthetics in intensive care: practical use and current experiences with the AnaConDa system].

The use of volatile anaesthetics in intensive care medicine has so far been limited by the lack of equipment suitable for daily routine use and the need for an anaesthetic machine. The new Anaesthetic Conserving Device (AnaConDa) enables the routine use of volatile anaesthetics for long-term sedation via intensive care ventilators. The Anaesthetic Conserving Device replaces the common heat and moisture exchanger in the ventilation circuit.

Hepatic arterial doppler sonography in patients with cirrhosis and controls: observer and equipment variability with use of the ultrasonic contrast agent SHU 508A.

Purpose: The aims of this study on hepatic arterial Doppler sonography were to ascertain interobserver and interequipment variability, to investigate any potential artificial influence of the ultrasonic contrast agent on the Doppler measurements and to compare the results in healthy and cirrhotic subjects.

Methods: Doppler sonography of the left hepatic artery was performed in nine healthy and nine cirrhotic subjects by three independent observers using three different devices. Continuous infusion of the ultrasonic contrast agent SHU 508A and placebo were administered in a double blind fashion.
