This study sought to understand the characteristics of racially/ethnically diverse pregnant and breastfeeding women who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and stressful life events (SLEs) and the relationship among ACEs, SLEs, and health outcomes in this population. This was a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data from the study. The participants in this study were families with children ages 5-9 ( = 1,307) recruited from Minneapolis-St.

Previously, we determined microRNA-31 (miR-31) is a noncoding tumor suppressive gene frequently deleted in glioblastoma (GBM); miR-31 suppresses tumor growth, in part, by limiting the activity of NF-κB. Herein, we expand our previous studies by characterizing the role of miR-31 during neural precursor cell (NPC) to astrocyte differentiation. We demonstrate that miR-31 expression and activity is suppressed in NPCs by stem cell factors such as Lin28, c-Myc, SOX2 and Oct4.

Background: Studies suggest Asian Americans may have improved oncologic outcomes compared with other ethnicities. We hypothesized that Asian Americans with colorectal cancer would have improved surgical outcomes in mortality, postoperative complications (POCs), length of stay (LOS), and readmissions compared with other racial/ethnic groups.

Methods: We queried the 2011-2014 American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program for patients who underwent surgery for colorectal cancer and stratified patients by race.

Chalcogenopyrylium monomethine dyes were prepared via condensation of a 4-methylchalcogenopyrylium compound with a chalcogenopyran-4-one bearing a 4-(diethoxyphosphoryl)phenyl substituent (or the phosphonic acid derivative). The dyes have absorbance maxima of 603-697 nm in the window where the solar spectrum is most intense. The dyes formed H-aggregates on TiO2, increasing the light-harvesting efficiency of the dyes.
