Activity Budgets of Captive Cape Fur Seals (Arctocephalus pusillus) Under a Training Regime.

Ethograms and time budgets are crucial for the behavioral assessment of nonhuman animals in zoos, and they serve as references for welfare research. This study was conducted to obtain detailed time budgets of trained Cape fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus) in captivity, to evaluate variations of these patterns, and to determine whether abnormal behaviors had been displayed. Behavioral data for 3 Cape fur seals in the Wroclaw Zoo were collected, and more than 300 observation hours (during a 12-month period) per individual were analyzed.

Relapsing acute kidney injury associated with pegfilgrastim.

We report a previously unrecognized complication of severe acute kidney injury (AKI) after the administration of pegfilgrastim with biopsy findings of mesangioproliferative glomerulonephritis (GN) and tubular necrosis. A 51-year-old white female with a history of breast cancer presented to the hospital with nausea, vomiting and dark urine 2 weeks after her third cycle of cyclophosphamide and docetaxel along with pegfilgrastim. She was found to have AKI with a serum creatinine (Cr) level of 6.

Proteasome inhibition with bortezomib: an effective therapy for severe antibody mediated rejection after renal transplantation.

Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) following renal transplantation is less responsive to conventional anti-rejection therapies. Plasmapheresis (PP), intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg), rabbit antithymocyte globulin (rATG) and rituximab deplete immature B-cells but not mature plasma cells. The proteasome inhibitor bortezomib has activity against mature plasma cell, the source of damaging donor-specific antibody (DSA).

De Novo Collapsing Glomerulopathy: An Unusual Cause of Early Graft Failure following Kidney Transplantation.

Collapsing glomerulopathy (CG) is a variant of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) characterized histologically by prominent glomerular capillary tuft collapse with hypertrophy and hyperplasia of podocytes and tubulointerstitial damage. Patients usually present with heavy proteinuria and rapidly progressive renal failure. We report a patient who developed de novo CG with severe clinical manifestations including worsening renal failure and nephrotic syndrome within six months of receiving deceased donor kidney transplant.
