Objectives: Transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy (TASH) and surgical myectomy are the recommended treatment options for patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy refractory (HOCM) when conventional drug treatment is not sufficient. We describe the application of radiofrequency (RF) energy via coronary guidewires in an animal model for selective occlusion of coronary side branches that mimics the principle of TASH.
Methods: Transcoronary guidewire ablation of coronary vessels was performed in 5 adult pigs under general anaesthesia in an animal cathlab after successful bench testing of the ablation settings.
Background: This retrospective observational study investigated the relationship between heart rate variability (HRV) and atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) by cryoballoon or radiofrequency ablation (RF).
Methods: We enrolled 497 patients who underwent PVI using first-generation cryoballoon (CB1), second-generation cryoballoon (CB2), or RF. We analyzed HRV as a surrogate for modulation of the intrinsic autonomic nervous system using 24‑h Holter recordings 1 or 2 days after the procedure and compared the recurrence and non-recurrence group with regard to ablation methods.
Background: Facing an increasing number of radiofrequency ablation (RF) and cryoballoon ablation (CB) procedures for treatment of AF radiation exposure and its reduction is a focus point for interventional electrophysiologists.
Objective: This study evaluated the procedural parameters of the different ablation methods focusing on radiation exposure and the BMI of the patients.
Methods: One thousand one hundred and thirty-three first procedural cases of pulmonary vein isolation in patients with paroxysmal and persistent AF treated with RF and CB-based techniques were analyzed retrospectively over a period of 7 years focusing on the endpoints dose area product (DAP, cGycm), fluoroscopy time (FT, min) and procedural time (PT, min).
Background: Transcoronary pacing is a seldom used treatment option for unheralded bradycardias in the setting of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). In the present study we compared a coated guidewire inserted proximally into a coronary artery with a cutaneous patch electrode as indifferent electrodes for transcoronary pacing in a porcine model.
Methods: Transcoronary pacing was investigated in 7 adult pigs in an animal catheterization laboratory.
