Aim: There is an urgent need for new antimicrobial compounds with alternative modes of action for the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Background: Carbohydrates and their derivatives are essential for biochemical and medicinal research because of their efficacy in the synthesis of biologically active drugs.

Objective: In the present study, a series of methyl α-D-mannopyranoside (MMP) derivatives (2-6) were prepared via direct acylation, and their biological properties were characterized.

Cancer is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and spreading throughout the body. This study employed computational approaches to investigate 18 naturally derived anticancer piscidinol A derivatives (-) as potential therapeutics. By examining their interactions with 15 essential target proteins (HIF-1α, RanGAP, FOXM1, PARP2, HER2, ERα, NGF, FAS, GRP78, PRDX2, SCF complex, EGFR, Bcl-xL, ERG, and HSP70) and comparing them with established drugs such as camptothecin, docetaxel, etoposide, irinotecan, paclitaxel, and teniposide, compound emerged as noteworthy.

This research aims to isolate, characterize, and analyze pure compounds from leaf extract to investigate its antibacterial, antidiabetic, cytotoxic, and phytotoxic effects. Fresh leaves were collected, dried, and subjected to methanol extraction to obtain a crude extract. From the petroleum ether fraction (PEF) of this extract, three fractions-designated LM1, LM2, and LM3-were prepared using column chromatography.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the genetic basis of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) in a diverse ethnic group with high consanguinity, focusing on 576 individuals to reveal significant genetic insights.
  • - Different sequencing methods were used to diagnose genetic causes, with a notable increase in diagnostic rates for children of consanguineous parents; combined CMA and exome sequencing yielded a 37.13% diagnostic rate.
  • - Key findings include the discovery of novel genetic variants related to NDDs, the identification of an association between G6PD variants and NDDs, and hints at the influence of ancient genetic drift in this Bangladeshi population.
