Article Synopsis
  • The article describes a simple method to create silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) embedded in a graphene oxide and cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix, which is treated with gamma radiation.
  • It was found that the thermal conductivity ('k') of the samples first decreases with radiation doses up to 5 kGy and then increases at higher doses, indicating that gamma irradiation affects the material's structural properties.
  • The PVA/GO-Ag/GA composite exhibits low thermal conductivity and strong electrical insulation, making it suitable for applications in thermal management, such as thermal insulation for microsensors and wire insulation in nuclear reactors.

In the present work, gold (Au), silver (Ag), and copper (Cu) based mono- and bimetallic NPs are prepared using a cost-effective facile wet chemical route. The pH for the synthesis is optimized in accordance with the optical spectra and supported by the finite difference time domain simulation studies. FESEM and TEM micrographs are used to analyze the morphology of the prepared nanoparticles.

Response function of a widely used 3in×3in NaI(Tl) detector is constructed to correct the observed pulse height distribution. A 10×10 inverse matrix is constructed using 7 mono-energetic gamma sources ((57)Co, (203)Hg, (133)Ba, (22)Na, (137)Cs, (54)Mn and (65)Zn) which are evenly spaced in energy scale to unscramble the observed pulse height distribution. Bin widths (E)(1/2) of 0.
