Article Synopsis
  • The study examined various nanomaterials, including graphene and gold nanoparticles, which exhibit different fluorescence quenching mechanisms, either dynamic or static, depending on their composition.
  • Detection capabilities ranged from 3.21 to 14.20 μM for different tryptophan-based systems, and a recovery test was performed with human serum to validate the sensors' effectiveness.

A new optical sensor was developed for rapid screening with high sensitivity for the existence of biogenic amines (BAs) in poultry meat samples. Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) with particle size 11-19 nm function as a fast and sensitive biosensor for detection of histamine resulting from bacterial decarboxylation of histidine as a spoilage marker for stored poultry meat. Upon reaction with histamine, the red color of the GNPs converted into deep blue.

Fast scan cyclic voltammetry (FSV) with a nanostructured carbon fiber sensor (N-CFS) was developed for direct measurements of the purine metabolite 2,8-dihydroxyadenine (2,8-DHA; i.e. 6-amino-1H-purine-2,8-dione) in endothelial cell supernatants as a marker of cell stress.

A new fast scan voltammetry (FSV) method was tested in the determinations of adenosine in physiological buffers at pH 7.4. The buffers can be used in the determinations of adenosine in vivo and include 7 x 10(-2) M phosphate, Krebs-Henseleit (K-H) and Hanks' Balanced Salts (HBSS).

Nanostructured carbon fiber microdisk electrodes were prepared by a combination of mechanical polishing and electrolytic treatment, where the latter involved moderate oxidation of the surface, followed by a reduction. A high density of surface defects contributed to a high capacitance of the nanostructured electrodes. Facilitated proton transfer was observed at the nanostructured surface and was associated with cation-exchanged oxide defects.
