Impact and therapy of osteoarthritis: the Arthritis Care OA Nation 2012 survey.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the fastest growing cause of disability worldwide. The aim of this study was to understand the impact of OA on individuals and to explore current treatment strategies. An online UK-wide survey of people with self-reported OA was conducted, composed of 52 questions exploring the impact of OA, diagnosis and treatment, the role of health professionals and self-management.

Advanced auditory displays and head-mounted displays: advantages and disadvantages for monitoring by the distracted anesthesiologist.

Background: In a full-scale anesthesia simulator study we examined the relative effectiveness of advanced auditory displays for respiratory and blood pressure monitoring and of head-mounted displays (HMDs) as supplements to standard intraoperative monitoring.

Methods: Participants were 16 residents and attendings. While performing a reading-based distractor task, participants supervised the activities of a resident (an actor) who they were told was junior to them.

Alcohol use by parents who present their child to a paediatric emergency department.

Objectives: Parental alcohol misuse exposes children to risk, but is poorly identified in paediatric settings. We aimed to (i) measure the alcohol use in parents of a sample of children attending emergency and (ii) assess the quality of documentation of this alcohol use by paediatric residents.

Method: Parents of children presenting to the Emergency Department of a children's hospital were interviewed regarding their alcohol use, and each completed an AUDIT CORE questionnaire.
