Patients suffering from large scars such as burn victims not only encounter aesthetic challenges but also ongoing itching or pain that substantially deteriorates their quality of life. Skin appendages such as hair follicles rarely regenerate within the healing wound. Because they are crucial for skin homeostasis and the lack thereof constitutes one of the main limitations to scarless wound healing, their regeneration represents a major objective for regenerative medicine.

Effect of Intrapapillary Local Anesthetic on Postoperative Pain Following Dental Treatment Under General Anesthesia in Pediatric Patients.

Objective: This randomized, prospective, blinded study compared pain in children following dental treatment under general anesthesia (GA) using 1 of 2 established analgesia methods.

Methods: Patients age 4 to 7 years were randomly assigned to a control group (intravenous [IV] analgesics) or experimental group (IV analgesics and intrapapillary local anesthetic infiltrations) between July 2017 and February 2018. During recovery from surgery, Faces, Legs, Activity, Cry, and Consolability (FLACC) scores were recorded upon regaining consciousness and reassessed every 15 minutes until discharge.

Translating prenatal oral health clinical standards into dental education: results and policy implications.

Objectives: To evaluate characteristics of pregnant women served through the University of North Carolina's (UNC) prenatal oral health program (pOHP) dental clinic and community healthcare pathways to inform efforts in promoting prenatal oral health policies.

Methods: The pOHP provides medical and dental students and practitioners with interprofessional experiences caring for pregnant women. A retrospective chart audit captured 314 pregnant women who made appointments over 33 months.

CXCL5 as Regulator of Neutrophil Function in Cutaneous Melanoma.

Chemokines mold the tumor microenvironment by recruiting distinct immune cell populations, thereby strongly influencing disease progression. Previously, we showed that CXCL5 expression is upregulated in advanced stages of primary melanomas, which correlates with the presence of neutrophils in the tumor. The analysis of neutrophil populations in various tissues revealed a distinct phenotype of tumor-associated neutrophils.
