An international programme in nursing and midwifery: building capacity for the new millennium.

Aim: The global economy is changing rapidly and frequently affects the ability of the health sector to respond to a variety of needs. Nurses and midwives are reaching across national boundaries to strengthen their ability to improve the health of populations. This article describes an innovative programme of collaboration among different nations to strengthen the capacity of nurses and midwives.

The Frances Payne Bolton WHO Collaborating Center: promoting home care globally.

Since its designation as a World Health Organization Collaborating Center in 1993, the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing has been committed to furthering the development of home care practices throughout the world. Through research, education, conferences, and publications, the Bolton School is promoting the efforts made by home care nurses throughout the world.

A simple and practical method of detecting AHSG using isoelectric focusing on dry gels is described. The procedure is both rapid and provides reliable results. AHSG phenotypes were determinated in 215 unrelated individuals from Northern Bavaria.
