A Minimally-Invasive Swine Model of Chronic Kidney Disease-Associated Heart Failure.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is on the rise, and over 50% of patients die from cardiac causes. Patients develop heart failure due to unelucidated reno-cardiac interactions, termed type 4 cardiorenal syndrome (CRS4). The aim of this study is to establish and characterize a reliable model of CRS4 in swine with marked cardiac diastolic dysfunction.

Characterization of high Zr/Ce ratio Ba(Zr,Ce,Y)O proton conductors: investigating the impact of Y on the properties of materials.

Acceptor-substituted Ba(Zr,Ce)O proton conducting oxides have attracted significant attention due to their excellent proton conductivity at intermediate temperatures (400-600 °C). A high Zr/Ce ratio is crucial for maintaining stability in humid or other harsh atmospheres. Herein, a systematic study was conducted on the phase composition, microstructure, and the resulting hydration ability and electrochemical performance of high Zr/Ce ratio Ba(Zr,Ce)O solid solutions with different Y substitution levels (10 at% to 30 at%).

Bridging the gap: building and sustaining recovery capital in the transition from prison to recovery residences.

The transition from jail to community is a high-risk time for individuals experiencing substance use disorders (SUD), with elevated risks of overdose and other substance-related harms, as well as high recidivism rates and re-incarceration. Gains made from successful treatment in prison are often lost in this transition. The current paper evaluates this process for one justice programme, Chesterfield HARP, a Therapeutic Community based in the Chesterfield County jail that continues supporting former inmates through their release by examining engagement and retention rates and changes in recovery capital among incarcerated individuals before incarceration and after transition to recovery housing in the community.

Background: Robotic assisted bronchoscopy has been enthusiastically adopted in the United States and has transformed the treatment of patients with indeterminate pulmonary nodules. Unprecedented industry investments in research, development, and marketing have profoundly affected the bronchoscopy landscape, leading to concerns that conflicts of interest could influence the validity of bronchoscopy studies. Disclosures of conflicts of interest in research are predicated on open and transparent self-reporting.
