: Gemcitabine has been used to treat various solid cancers, including, since 1997, metastatic pancreatic cancer. Here, we developed an HPLC-UV method to determine serum gemcitabine levels and use it in pharmacokinetic studies. : The analysis was performed after a single protein precipitation step on a reversed-phase column, isocratically eluted with sodium phosphate buffer and methanol.

Background/aim: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death. The purpose of the present study was to establish a patient-derived orthotopic xenograft model (PDOX) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), thus providing a tumor microenvironment resembling that of the human pancreas to identify novel potential biomarkers and treatment regimens.

Materials And Methods: PDAC tissue samples were received from 35 patients, following informed consent, and three mouse strains were implemented.

Article Synopsis
  • * Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) demonstrated stronger antibacterial properties than cuprous-ferric delafossite (CuFeO NPs), but CuFeO NPs exhibited lower genotoxicity and better biocompatibility.
  • * CuFeO NPs also performed better in protecting against protein denaturation, suggesting potential for superior anti-inflammatory effects compared to CuO NPs and similar to standard medications like acetylsalicylic acid.

In the present contribution, the biological properties of four manganese complexes with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs sodium diclofenac (Nadicl) or indomethacin (Hindo) in the presence or absence of salicylaldoxime (Ηsao), i.e. [Μn(O)(dicl)(sao)(CHOH)] 1, [Μn(O)(indo)(sao)(HO)], 2, [Μn(dicl)(CHOH)], 3, and [Μn(indo)(CHOH)], 4 are presented.

Copper based nanoparticles (Cu-based NPs) of different compositions and sizes have been hydrothermally synthesized by varying the reaction time in the presence of the biocompatible surfactants polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan laurate (Tween 20) and polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG 8000). Effective control of the above synthetic parameters gave rise to Cu, Cu2O and Cu/Cu2O NPs of 10-44 nm. The antibacterial activity of the NPs was screened against Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Xanthomonas campestris, Escherichia coli) bacteria.
